Right Turn Clyde, with supporting acts AKA Charlie Brown and New Road.
Esquires Level II, Bedford Saturday 5th October, 2002
AKA CHARLIE BROWN hit the stage
with high expectations from many, after excellent performances at the
Planet 2 'Battle Of The Bands' competition.
Their performance had good points but there was a tendency to
sacrifice the songs quality for a bit of poo poo humour. Sounding a
lot like Blink 1-82 they played a collection of songs including
Britney Spears and So Solid Crew covers that finished with by far
their best song 'Rebellion', a storming punk rock anthem.
Planet 2 'Battle Of The Bands' winners - NEW ROAD recently
finished their new EP - 'The Sunshine E.P.' and were playing a collection
of the tracks here tonight.
Since their performances at the Battle Of The Bands, and a couple of
bottom of the bill support slots before the summer break, their sounds
has improved immensly. Their songs are well rounded Ska Punk
singalongs with big choruses and skanking verses that really got
the crowd going.
After Vanilla Pod's cancellation tonight I dont think the crowd
knew what to expect from RIGHT TURN CLYDE, and you couldn't help but feel
sorry for the group who got the worst crowd reaction of the night.
Despite this they played a quality set of brilliant rock songs with
punk rock stylings that definitely caught my ear. The sining was
quality, they were tight and they had a great rhythmic sound which
gave them a personallity all their own.
Their stage presence was cool and there was humerous crowd
interaction, even though most of Esquires didn't seem to be paying
attention, which was a shame as it made the Bedford scene look
slightly rude and arrogant in front of what really was a good band
playing a fun show.
